Send RSS feed updates to Twitter via Feedburner
Category: Technology>Technology Bites

Feedburner which stopped to innovate after Google acquisition added an useful feature which might of interest to bloggers. Now it is easier to publish your RSS feed headlines to twitter directly from Feedburner.

There is a new feature called socialize, which can be accessed from the publicize tab in feedburner allows you to push RSS feeds to twitter. You need to authenticate your twitter account first, this is done using OAuth so no panic there. Once you authenticate you can configure the options to send new tweets as soon as the feed gets updated.

If you have ever used services like twitterfeed, this feature looks familiar. You can send only titles of the posts or title along with body, add categories as hash tags, alternate text you want to add to the tweet etc. You can also filter out sending certain tweets to twitter using keywords.

Now with this “Socialize” feature enabled directly in Feedburner, i am sure that twitterfeed will loose much of its users. Why any one want to use another third-party service when you can directly use feedburner for that.

Another interesting thing is that Google is using Goo.gl URL shortner, currently the URL shortner is only available via Feedburner and Google Toolbar, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if it will be integrated to other Google services.

Goo.gl short URL service will be a bad news for the popular URL shortner bit.ly, as of now it may not be a big deal to them but once Goo.gl integrates it will Google Analytics then they are in soup. Also bit.ly’s strong point is that they are default twitter URL shortner, but there is no guarantee that twitter won’t switch to Goo.gl, atleast if Google offers payment for the same.

feedburner-twitter
One thing is for sure, whatever web service gets popular with users, Google will jump into that. Isn’t it scary?

Google Chrome for Mac and Linux versions have finally hit beta today. If you are running chromium builds for Mac now you got the more stable beta version. It took quite a while for Google to release the Mac and Linux versions of the speedy browser, considering Google Chrome for Windows is launched more than a year ago.

Google says they have worked hard on Google Chrome for Mac to get it right, and they also claim that it is much faster. Download Google Chrome for Mac

We’ve been working hard to deliver a first-class browser for the Mac — it took longer than we expected, but we hope the wait was worth it! We wanted Google Chrome to feel at home on the Mac, so we’ve focused on uniting our clean, simple design with subtle animations and effects to create a snappy and satisfying browsing experience on OS X. As you might expect, the speed of Google Chrome for Mac is something we’re very proud of. If you have a Mac, try installing the beta and see how fast it launches — there’s hardly even time for the icon in the dock to bounce!

Google Chrome for Linux also hit beta today, Google says they are focused on speed, stability and security. Google Chrome extensions launched in beta
Category: Technology>Technology Bites

Along with the Google Chrome for Mac and Linux versions today Google also announced the availability of extensions in beta. If you are running a beta version of Google Chrome you can install extensions now. The extensions are available for both Windows and Linux versions from today, but Mac users have to wait a while to get the extensions.

google-chrome-extensions

Lack of extensions on Google Chrome is one of the reason many Firefox fans are reluctant to move to Google Chrome although chrome is speedier than Firefox. Today with the launch of extensions Google chrome will gain some Firefox fans also. Google has launched an extensions gallery which contains 300 extensions as of now, but the number will increase soon as more people install extensions and this will boost developer activity.

If you are worried about Google chrome speed after installing extensions, Google says ”Chromium’s extensive performance monitoring infrastructure has helped us ensure extensions affect Google Chrome’s speed as little as possible.” So that’s a good news, but we will know for sure in the coming days how the extensions are affecting the overall speed of the Google Chrome browser.

Installing extensions is easy, no need of restarting the browser like Firefox. Click the install button and you are good to go.
